Review title of UnknownMissing something..to say the least.

This is about the best multitrack recorder I could find in the app store. So the good thing is that it is my favorite so far, however it is missing some simple comforts of usability and also has some major issues. You cannot fast forward your track so skipping large portions and general navigation is anything but user friendly. There are tool icons everywhere with no explanation of what they actually do. Consult the online manual if you want but many of these tools are not mentioned in it. The biggest complaint that I have is I just paid for the app only to find that it STILL will NOT allow me to mixdown the track to an audio file! So what's the point of recording when you cant make a finished product..So know I have to make a recording of my track on a separate device and lose a generation.

Bpm Matching Software

Thanks for the detailed review, it will help me to improve the app.As for the difficulty to move along the track, you can use the markers that allow you to easily move (to add a marker you make a long tap in the area above the tracks). Regarding the manual, you're right, we add new features very often and very quickly, and sometimes the manual is not updated. We are writing a new manual. To export a song, you click on the file button and then on the Mixdown button. You can determine the beginning and the end of the mixdown by moving the blue arrows that are located high up on the tracks. I am importing an MP3 song into Studio One 3 - Artist edition. I am trying to figure how to determine the BPM so I can add additional tracks. I looked at various postings and none of them seem to give me the right answer.
And besides, is there a short cut for me to change the tempo number from 120 with up/down arrow keys. Looks like I may have to enter the value manually.

If you have the latest version of Melodyne then you can drag the tempo map that Melodyne produces during its analysis into the tempo line of S1 or if you don't have Melodyne functionality you can perform a manual Tempo mapping exercise.
Either way, check out the many available YouTube videos on Tempo mapping in S1 particularly those by JPettit a regular S1 forum contributer and Tempo mapping guru.

Maybe one day I'll actually finish a project!

I believe Melodyne is not free. I have to activate it. I guess I have to do the old fashion way. I have an arranger keyboard and toggle the tempo with metronome until there is a match. Some of the older songs produced in 1970s may not have steady tempo. Thanks

Here's a good video on quick tempo mapping from Studio One Expert. This is the old fashioned way, so no Melodyne needed.

When in doubt: YouTube. It's full of tutorials.

Melodyne Essential v4 is free for anyone using Studio One v3 onwards. Melodyne Essential v2 is free for anyone using S1 version 2 and earlier, I believe. And it's worth activating it, not just to alter vocal tuning but for all kinds of purposes such as repitching audio samples.
However, I don't know if Essential allows you to do tempo mapping as I'm on version 4 Editor. Anyone know for certain?

I don’t have the latest version. I might have the one before that. Will this method still work?

It should. Tempo mapping is different than just finding the tempo of a song.

Also some hip hop guys on youtube have shown me this method and frankly it makes the most sense to me:
Find the downbeat of the sample/song, cut at that transient and get a four bar loop going. Drag the tempo up and down until your loop loops perfectly (you can also look/visualize where beats 2, 3 and 4 are, especially if there is snare on 2 and 4). Bam: That's the tempo of the song. Right click the audio file, type in the tempo, and now it will stretch to whatever tempo you have set.
Important note with this method: Make sure that there is no tempo already set for the audio file (right click it and type in 0 for file tempo), that way when you drag the global tempo up and down it won't stretch the file at all.
You can also start clicking the tempo numbers down below and it'll become a tap tempo, but those are so inaccurate to me..Or maybe I'm just too inaccurate
